A few words about Daphne…..
I always had an interest in understanding nature and observing physical phenomena… When I was 8, I decided to take apart a battery operated radio so I could figure out how it worked! I was able to put it back together, and it still worked. As a teenager, I developed an affection for math that was later transformed into a passion for physics. Then came the love for solid state physics, materials science and finally PLASMAS !
But what do I enjoy the most??? The first thing that comes to my mind is the discovery of new things and being able to innovate. I also enjoy the opportunity to work and interact with colleagues from other countries, ethnic backgrounds and cultures. I enjoy travelling abroad and having the chance to share knowledge & experience and also the aromas, tastes and sounds… I remember enjoying my stay at a hostel in Prague in 1999 while I was attending the 14th International Symposium on Plasma Chemistry (ISPC-14), having a blast with friends. I also assisted with the organization of the 16th International Symposium on Plasma Chemistry (ISPC-16) that took place in Taormina, Italy in 2003. I will never forget the hours we spent rehearsing our talks and reading the literature to prepare for the questions that the other attendees might ask.
There is a sense of pride every time I am asked to present my research. A 20- minute presentation at a conference is the result of months -sometimes even years- of experimental work, data analyses and literature reviews. Throughout the 15+ years of research, I have been blessed with the opportunity to work in academia, industry and also a government lab. I continue to learn new things every day….
